ING form (Gerund or Verb/Noun)

SUBJECT OF SENTENCE

A Gerund can be the subject of a sentence instead of a noun.

e.g. Going on holiday is very exciting.

Cooking is a useful skill.

 

OBJECT OF SENTENCE

A Gerund can be the object of certain verbs instead of a noun. (You have to learn which verbs these are)

e.g. I love swimming in the sea.

I don't like shopping.

AFTER PREPOSITIONS

Many verbs and adjectives have preposition after them. (on, in, about, for etc.) These can be followed by a noun or a Gerund.

e.g. I like History

or

       I like learning History.
